The 9th Annual Kollaboration at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles on Saturday, February 21, 2009.
LOS ANGELES, CA—Saturday, February 21st, 2009 marks the day in which Boa, the Korean-born singer/dancer phenomenon of Asia will join Kollaboration 9's lineup of some of today's best Asian American talent on stage at the Shrine Auditorium. Boa, whose big-voice and powerfully precise dance routine with her Tinkerbelle-like frame has moved more than 10 million albums throughout Asia in Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea is waiting the release of her debut American album with a release date of March 17 this year. Kollaboration 9 at the Shrine Auditorium will be the artist's first time to share the stage with independent, up-and-coming Asian American artists.
While Boa will get to set the tone of the stage as the larger-than-life stunner, this year's competitors are sure to compete for the limelight. Kollaboration 9 competitors Jane Lui – award-winning songwriter and performer with her rich and soulful voice, Paul Dateh – hip hop violinist, David Choi – Warner Chappell songwriter and David Bowie award-winning songwriter and performer, Kenichi Ebina – the only two-time Grand Champion of Showtime at the Apollo; actor and choreographer of the Japanese drama Manhattan Diaries, Jazmin – the four-sister pop-group finalists of MTV's Top Pop Group and NBC's America's Got Talent, Kina Grannis –Singer and songwriter who won the 2008 Doritos Crash the Superbowl competition, and Lilybeth Evardome – Concerto protégé of Andrew Robinson of the Los Angeles Philharmonic will move the 6,300 enthused audience throughout the evening.
MTV's America's Best Dance Crews' KABA Modern and Fanny Pak as guest performers will complete the Kollaboration 9 show as a historical moment in Asian American entertainment history. Aspiring Asian American talents will share the stage with some of the most popular Asian American artists working their way throughout the mainstream media, and with Boa- the biggest established artist in Asia on her way to her American breakthrough.
This year's competition winners will be decided by guest judges: Printz Board (Producer of artists Natasha Bedingfield and the Black Eyed Peas), James Kyson Lee (Actor of NBC's Heroes), James Ryu (Editor-in-Chief of KoreaAm Journal and Audrey magazine), Welly Yang (director of Asian Excellence Awards), and Teddy Zee (Producer of The Pursuit of Happyness, Hitch).
The Shrine Expo Hall (directly adjacent to the Shrine Auditorium) will host 4,000 after-show partiers for the official Kollaboration 9 After-party. The event will be open-bar (courtesy of Hite Beer/Jinro Soju) and will include its own array of special guests- Roscoe Umali (Rapper with 2008's #1 Independent Record in the U.S.), Nylon Pink (L.A. pop-rock band composed of Kaila Yu, Karen Beck, Kat Lee, Samuel Bluck, Tj Mcdonnell and Tj Normandin) and Tatum Jones (R&B group finalists on NBC's America's Got Talent) and six college dance-crews for an after-party in need of its own "save the date" memo.
